Ballet with Christine Kardell

Christine Kardell is an independent dance teacher, choreographer, and certified GYROTONIC® trainer. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from the University of Missouri and a Masters Degree in Liberal Arts from Washington University.  She has comprehensive Ballet Lessons by Christine Kardellballet pedagogical knowledge as well as extensive experience in choreography and musical theatre.  Ms. Kardell owned and operated her own dance studio, DuFrenne Dance Academy, for many years and has been an adjunct faculty member at Webster University, University of Missouri-St Louis, and guest faculty for Stephens College, Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp, and the American College Dance Festival.  She worked at COCA, The Center of Creative Arts, as the Pre Professional Division Manager, Rehearsal Director for Ballet Eclectica, and member of the dance faculty teaching advanced ballet, pointe and variations, jazz, choreography, and floor barre. Ms. Kardell currently conducts independent dance/movement workshops throughout the Midwest as well as private lessons to promising young dancers.

ADULT BALLET- BEG/INT     TUESDAY 5:30-7:00

This introductory class is specially designed for adults who have a passion and desire to learn classical ballet but have little or no prior dance experience.  Class emphasis is on poise and strength while developing basic ballet technique in a relaxed and comfortable environment.  Students are exposed to core fundamentals of ballet such as basic body positions, proper alignment, posture, rotation, flexibility, ballet vocabulary as well as ballet classroom etiquette.

Pre-registration is required for this class as this is a series of classes, not single drop-in classes. Consistent attendance is important, as each class will build upon the previous concepts studied.

Women should wear a solid color leotard, tights, ballet shoes, and hair up off neck.  Men should wear tights, biker shorts, or jazz pants, with solid color t-shirt and hair off neck.

This class is perfect for adults who have had previous dance training and/or experience in ballet and want to focus on developing artistry, musicality, and épaulement.  Each class moves at a quick pace, offering challenging combinations at both the barre and in the center, while maintaining focus on strong ballet technique.  An emphasis on proper body alignment will be a key point of focus, in addition to proper hip rotation, flexibility, and postural placement.
