This class is designed to help the Advanced beginner or seasoned intermediate work on connection, technique, and the embrace while also focusing on some of the athletic material that inspires so many of us when we start. Nuevo is a style, a technique, not a musical choice. We will work on non-traditional shaping of all the intermediate moves we have been teaching over the years: Sacadas, Boleos, Ganchos, Volcadas, etc … The foundation of great Nuevo is great Salon. Connection is required for all moves, both simple and athletic. Join us for an exciting new class with a new twist.
Beginning Tango: Ochos
March 2nd to April 20th
Mondays @ 7:00pm
Instructors: Roxanne & Anna
Our beginning series classes are all the basics (plus some of the fun and fancy) broken up into three parts. Starting with this class or the Turns series is ideal. This section starts with developing clear and concise leads and follows, your tango walk, amagues, and ochos (simple pivots). Then we play with the ideas of Barridas (drags), Paradas (stops), and pivoting and balancing techniques. Come get tangled up with us!
- It is inadvisable to start in Beginning Tango: Crossed System. The Molinetas, and Ochos are much easier and the movements more recognizable. The three classes combine and help develop a strong foundation where you can choose your path of intermediate skills.
Monthly Tango Technique Class
Convergence Dance and Body Center offers monthly Tango Technique lessons. This class can be used as a make-up for any missed tango classes or you can pay to come for a one-time drop in price. The class is designed to work on exercises that promote more body awareness, strength, and control. It is much easier to fine tune the intricacies of leading (and following) rotation and powe in the weight-bearing leg when we don’t have to worry about another person, floor-craft, or the composition (choreography) of the dance. After this class you will have some ideas of things to practice at home to improve your dance without the need of another person. There is work that you do on yourself and word you do with the partner. This class will give you exercises to work on yourself so that everything feels better and you have more fun with your partner.
The cost is $20 to drop-in
The class is normally on the second Saturday of the month at 11:00 am.
