Convergence Dance Center offers private and group Swing Dance Lessons to help you find your own style on the dance floor. We make it a point to ascertain the style of swing, starting with your prefered music, that you will enjoy the most and teach you step by step until you no longer need us. Whether you choose to study at your own pace with a private lesson program, as a community in a group setting or a combination of the two, we will custom tailor a program just for you. Our staff teaches swing dance lessons at charity events including Lindy Hop St. Louis and has helped students compete and win at dance competitions across the country. We offer group lessons once per week and private lessons on most days. Swing styles we offer include: • East Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing and Hustle.
We came here because we didn't know anything about any salsa classes or studios. In hindsight, we got so lucky we ended up here. What we thought would be just Salsa 1 ended up as Salsa 2A and Salsa 2B, then Bachata. We are hooked because these folks make dancing fun and easy for anyone. Super unfortunate but I ended up busting my knee and went to Carter, the Chiropractor, for therapy. So glad he was there because I'm back to my old self again.
Convergence is by far the best dance studio I've ever been to! I have been going for about three years now and I still learn so many new things each week! There are a wide array of classes, of which I have taken salsa and tango (both spectacular). Every instructor is helpful and extremely knowledgeable about every dance style taught there! The classes also range from beginner level to advanced, so there is something for everyone! I highly recommend this studio for anyone looking to learn new dances and also for more experienced dancers who want to learn even more!
I'm not sure I've ever actually expressed to you what a big deal it is for me to now feel comfortable at a social dance. I was almost pathologically shy as a teenager and not knowing how to dance, or how to ask for a dance without being gleefully rejected, was one of the ongoing themes of my youth. This past year it has been *profoundly* gratifying to put some of those old ghosts to rest, and have a hell of a good time in the process. Thanks. I mean it.
West Coast Swing is predominately danced to pop, R&B and some blues. It is fun, creative and can be danced everywhere! This class is designed to continue to lay the groundwork for people to be able to dance a basic West Coast Swing dance with a bit more spice to popular music at a club or wedding. You do not need a partner but you should have taken West Coast Swing 1 / Beginning West Coast Swing before registering for this class. We do lead follow balance the class so single registrants, please register early so we can organize that.
This class is for the dancer that has a solid foundation of West Coast Swing but still has some work to do to make it super smooth. The participants should be familiar with basic 6 and 8 count patterns as well as basic whip turns (both timing and turn variations). Spinning passes and rock and go's are also a requirement. A redirected whip and some basic knowlede of how to substitute things in your anchor will also make this class more enjoyable for you. We will further explore dynamic connection and fluidity with turns and redirects. We will be changing partners in class and you do not need a partner to join. However, we do lead follow balance the class so either come with a partner or register early to increase your odds of joining the class! It is a super fun group of people and we would love to have you!!! All classes are lead/follow balanced and are processed in the order they are received.
GROUP CLASS. Ready for some fun? Come learn some basic swing in a comfortable and relaxed environment. Our two basic classes will teach you solid basics and easy-to-understand principles to prepare you for most social dance occasions or to help you prepare for a more specialized form of swing. We will explore some of the popular styles of swing so you can choose the music and moves you like best. These classes focus on the fundamentals of partner dancing and begin with easy 6- or 8-count patterns to get you dancing and having fun right away. It does not matter which series you take first. All classes are lead/follow balanced and are processed in the order they are received.
Private lesson: cost is the same for a single or couple. The lesson is 50 minutes. Please note that our teachers only get paid when you come to dance. To avoid being charged for canceling, please give us 24 hours notice, otherwise you will be charged for the lesson.
