Convergence Body and Dance has been teaching Argentine Tango in the St. Louis area for over 20 years with many of the area’s top dancers taking lessons with us. We have been taking clients annually to Argentina since 1996 on Tango Intensive Tours. Working closely with our Argentine staff, we have developed one of the most fun and effective tango programs in the country. Whether you choose to study at your own pace with a private lesson program, as a community in a group setting or a combination of the two, we will custom tailor a program just for you. Our beginning program is divided into three sections – Ochos, Molientas, and Crossed System – so that students can fully develop the basics and how to get in and out of each move multiple ways as to fully develop the ability to improvise. Our intermediate program has a rotating topic so students can fully explore each idea. Our intermediate classes include Sacadas, Ganchos & Enganches, Boleos, Colgadas, Volcadas, Soltadas, and more.
We came here because we didn't know anything about any salsa classes or studios. In hindsight, we got so lucky we ended up here. What we thought would be just Salsa 1 ended up as Salsa 2A and Salsa 2B, then Bachata. We are hooked because these folks make dancing fun and easy for anyone. Super unfortunate but I ended up busting my knee and went to Carter, the Chiropractor, for therapy. So glad he was there because I'm back to my old self again.
Convergence is by far the best dance studio I've ever been to! I have been going for about three years now and I still learn so many new things each week! There are a wide array of classes, of which I have taken salsa and tango (both spectacular). Every instructor is helpful and extremely knowledgeable about every dance style taught there! The classes also range from beginner level to advanced, so there is something for everyone! I highly recommend this studio for anyone looking to learn new dances and also for more experienced dancers who want to learn even more!
I'm not sure I've ever actually expressed to you what a big deal it is for me to now feel comfortable at a social dance. I was almost pathologically shy as a teenager and not knowing how to dance, or how to ask for a dance without being gleefully rejected, was one of the ongoing themes of my youth. This past year it has been *profoundly* gratifying to put some of those old ghosts to rest, and have a hell of a good time in the process. Thanks. I mean it.
GROUP CLASS. Our beginning series classes are all the basics plus some fun and fancy broken into three parts. Starting with this class or the Turns series is ideal. This section starts with developing clear and concise leads and follows, your tango walk, amagues and ochos (simple pivots). Then, we play with the ideas of Barridas (drags), Paradas (stops), and pivoting and balancing techniques. Come get tangled up with us!
GROUP CLASS. This class is designed to help the advanced beginner or seasoned intermediate work on connection, technique and the embrace while also focusing on some of the more challenging and athletic material that inspires so many of us when we start. In this class, we will work on non-traditional shaping of all the intermediate moves we have been teaching over the years: sacadas, boleos, ganchos, volcadas, etc. The foundation of great Nuevo is great Salon. Connection is required for all moves, both simple and athletic. Join us for an exciting new class with a new twist.
